Payment and Finance Options for Bariatric Surgery or Post-Weightloss Plastic Surgery

Paying for your Procedure

There are several payment options and alternatives available to patients, these include Loans, Install Payments, Savings, Credit Cards, Finance Companies or Super Fund Withdrawal. It is important to note that most practices are NOT credit providers. None of the suppliers listed below offer us any form of commission or kickbacks from recommending your services. We do NOT provide financial advice and therefore is important to take your own financial situation into account either with or without external financial advice.

If you are interested in the various life-changing operations it is important to note that surgery can be quite expensive, the associated costs from procedures may include a surgeon’s fee, hospital and surgical facility costs, anaesthesia fees, prescription medications, post-surgery garments or other medical tests. There are never flat rates between surgery costs as cost varies wildly due to a range of factors including the surgeon’s experience, geographic location and mainly the type of procedure.

Finding the right surgeon is important, as you may be tempted to side with a far cheaper option it is usually for a reason, the surgeon may be greatly inexperienced or may cut corners on safety and other medical equipment. For this reason, it is may be worth deciding on a surgeon who is going to do the surgery correctly and safely. If you find a surgeon who offers a far cheaper price than most, then the offer is probably too good to be true, and may even save you thousands on revisional surgery if problems arise post-surgical.

Finance Options

Paying for these expensive surgeries can either be done one or two ways, the first being a Payment before your operation. This option is considered for those who have existing savings to pay off the surgery beforehand. We understand that this may not be an available option for all, which leads us to the second option; paying after your surgery. Not every person has the available funds to pay up front for surgery, luckily there are a number of reputable EXTERNAL finance companies available that may be able to assist you with payments.

5. SUPERFUND FOR SURGERY

Are you SAVING UP for your life-changing surgery? Maybe Your Super Fund can Help!

Several recent surgery patients have been able to access their Superannuation Funds to pay for their own life-changing surgery. There is a special government process to follow and many forms to fill out, but it could be a possibility.

This may be most likely to apply to:

Under exceptional circumstances, the Department of Human Services (DHS) will assess early super fund access on ”compassionate grounds”, which include medical procedures to treat life-threatening illnesses and chronic pain. Your Super fund will make the final decision to release the money. Note that not all super funds permit early access of super benefits on these grounds, so you should check with your super fund before applying.

You can find further information on the requirements, including documentation, by visiting the DHS website: www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/early-release-of-superannuation

You will need to take into account your circumstances if applying for financing for any form of elective surgery.  It is often wise to enquire with an independent financial consultant or financial advisor.
