What is a BMI?
A BMI or Body Mass Index is a value used to categorize and determine whether a person lies within a healthy body weight. The body mass index compares your body weight² (kg) over your height² (m²) to gain a value that gives us a general estimate of your health range, keep in mind that this is not an accurate representation of your current health as it doesn’t take into account your gender, age, existing health conditions, body definitions etc.
General BMI ranges are categorized below:
- Less than 18 BMI – Underweight
- Between 18 and 25- Healthy Weight
- Between 25 and 30 – Overweight
- Between 30 and 35 – Obese
- Between 35 and 40 – Severely Obese
- Over 40 – Morbidly Obese Obese
If you find yourself lying outside of the healthy BMI range it may be important you consult your local doctor or GP in order to further assess your health in order to gain a professional opinion with all factors such as existing conditions, age, heritage and more all considered.
